In a bold move protesting the delay of salary payments, employees and teachers of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram have initiated an indefinite pen-down strike starting Thursday, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The Chakma District Council Employees' Association and the Chakma District Council Teachers' Association convened on Tuesday, where they unanimously decided to strike. The associations had previously submitted a detailed petition to the governor on March 16, outlining the hardships of going unpaid for over four months, described in the meeting as leading to a crisis in socio-economic stability, disrupting education and healthcare access.
Despite their best efforts, association leaders are troubled by the governor's silence on the matter. The strike will impact schools and all CADC-governed offices, drawing attention to the ongoing salary crisis. Attempts to reach officials from the state district council and minority affairs department for comment were unsuccessful.
