Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to receive Z-Plus security as he prepares to enter the Rajya Sabha, according to a recent notification by the state home department.

Previously, Kumar was under a special security cover granted by the Bihar Special Security Act, 2000, modeled after the SPG Act for the Prime Minister. His impending transition to the upper house of Parliament means relinquishing his current role as CM, a move that prompts the upgraded security level.

Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and is poised to step into his new position following the exit of retiring members this month. With the conclusion of biennial polls for five Rajya Sabha seats in the state, which are set to end on April 9, speculation surrounds Kumar's potential resignation from the chief ministership prior to or shortly after taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member.
