A Border Security Force officer tragically lost his life in a fire that erupted at the force's fuel depot located in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, officials disclosed. The unfortunate incident occurred at the Bankra border outpost in Hingalganj, situated along the India-Bangladesh border.
Assistant Sub Inspector Jagi Ram, the officer who perished, was trapped within the fuel dump when a massive fire, caused by a blast, swept through the depot. The depot was crucial for fueling BSF boats patrolling the riverine stretches of the Sundarbans. No other casualties or injuries have been reported, according to officials.
The outpost in question is part of the BSF's 77th Battalion. ASI Jagi Ram had been serving in the BSF since 1990. Both the police and the BSF are actively investigating the incident to ascertain the cause and prevent future occurrences.
