Uttarakhand's Madrasas Under Scrutiny Amidst Verification Drive

The Uttarakhand government has ordered a statewide verification of madrasas amid reports of children being brought from other states. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the need for transparency and rule compliance, promising strict action against any irregularities. Districts must report their findings to the state administration.

The Uttarakhand government has launched a comprehensive verification drive targeting madrasas across the state. This move follows reports on social media suggesting that children from other states were being brought into these religious institutions.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has warned that any irregularities found during this probe will lead to stringent action. District Magistrates in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital have been instructed to investigate how these children are being brought to Uttarakhand and whether their parents consent to this relocation.

Parag Madhukar Dhakate, special secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, stressed that the priority is the safety of the children and adherence to regulations. Uttarakhand has 452 registered madrasas, and under the new Uttarakhand Minority Education Act, all madrasas must seek affiliation from the state's Board of School Education by 2026.
