On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a four-day 'Shukrana Yatra', marking the enforcement of a stringent anti-sacrilege law. The event began with Mann paying homage at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, a pivotal religious site.
Mann emphasized that this journey is a gesture of gratitude for the chance to govern with clarity under the new Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. This legislation ensures severe penalties, including life imprisonment and heavy fines, for acts of sacrilege against the Guru Granth Sahib, revered as the Sikh holy book.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the government's commitment to the legacy of freedom fighters, stressing the need to confront divisive politics that threaten communal harmony. This law, Mann assured, would safeguard Punjab's peace and preserve the aspirations of its martyrs.
