The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has disclosed a notable 6.6% increase in offences against the State, with cases rising from 4,873 in 2023 to 5,194 in 2024. The data, released on Wednesday, uncovered a significant overall pendency rate of 60.9% in these cases.

Breaking down the figures, 84.6% of offences were registered under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, while the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) constituted 12.5% of cases. Additionally, 7,933 cases were left pending investigation by the end of 2024, contributing to a 60.9% pendency rate.

Among various jurisdictions, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of state offences at 1,628, while Jammu and Kashmir noted 272 cases, also leading in UAPA violations with 215 cases. The charge-sheeting rate in UAPA cases was pegged at 56.9%, with 692 cases disposed by the police in 2024.
