Dan Sohail, a 36-year-old from Carteret, New Jersey, has entered a guilty plea for intentionally driving his vehicle into the Chabad Lubavitch world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, federal prosecutors announced. The January attack, which Sohail confessed to conducting five times consecutively, resulted in damages estimated at USD 19,000.

Despite initially facing state-level hate crime charges, Sohail resolved his case with a federal guilty plea to intentionally damaging religious property, which carries a potential three-year prison sentence. However, federal sentencing guidelines may see his time reduced to six months. The incident sparked fears over religious liberty as the headquarters was occupied by 2,000 individuals at the time.

The attack coincided with the 75th anniversary of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson's leadership of the Lubavitch movement, drawing heightened attention and calls for serious consequences from the Jewish community. Representatives indicated that Sohail, seen as having mental health concerns, had previously engaged amicably with the Chabad community.
