Supreme Court Overturns Ruling Against Amazon in Future Group Investment Case
India's Supreme Court has overturned earlier rulings by the NCLAT and CCI against Amazon, effectively lifting a penalty and the suspension of its investment deal with Future Group. The court has instructed any recovered amounts to be refunded to Amazon within eight weeks.
In a significant legal victory, Amazon has seen a Supreme Court ruling in its favor, overturning prior decisions made by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI). These past rulings had imposed a significant penalty and suspended Amazon’s investment arrangement with Future Group.
The bench, consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, ordered that any sums paid or seized from Amazon due to these now-invalidated orders be reimbursed within two months. The judgement marks a crucial turn in Amazon's legal struggle to maintain its business interests in India.
