February 14 is not only known for Valentine’s Day, but this day is also recalled for Madhubala who was born on this day in the year 1933. Google celebrates her 86th birthday with an astounding doodle. Here we have shared some unknown facts about Madhubala which you might have never heard.

The original name of Madhubala was Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi. She first made her onscreen performance in the film Basant in 1942 at the age of just 9. She is still known today for her amazing beauty, personality and sensitive portrayal of women in the movies. The film industry followed her nationwide and global fans started calling her The Beauty of Tragedy.

Madhubala is also popular in Bollywood as The Venus of Indian Cinema. You may not know she was compared with Marilyn Monroe, the Hollywood actress. She was also sometimes called Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood. Not only due to smouldering looks, but she is also being compared with Marilyn Monroe in terms of short career and tragic end. She first made her acting debut with Raj Kapoor in the movie Neel Kamal at the age of 14 in 1947.

Many of Madhubala’s fans do not know their favourite legendary beautiful actress was photographed by an ace James Burke for Life Magazine. James Burke was flabbergasted seeing her beauty and personality including her onscreen performance and approached her to be featured in the Life Magazine. The magazine featured her by calling her ‘the biggest star’ in the international film industry. James Burke photographed her intensively for this feature.

Everyone knows Madhubala was married to Kishore Kumar before having a long relationship with Dilip Kumar. But do you know that Kishore Kumar proposed her when she in the late 1950s was quite ill as she was suffering from congenital heart disease? She decided to marry him as she realized that Dilip Kumar was not going to marry her.

Very few know that Madhubala was never accepted as Kishore Kumar’s wife by his family despite they had a Hindu ceremony. Obviously, her unacceptance in the family was based on the religion as Kishore Kumar (original name Abhas Kumar Ganguly) was born in a Bengali Brahmin family and Madhubala was non-Hindu.

Madhubala was nominated for a Filmfare Award for her performance in Mughal-e-Azam. Coincidently, she and Marilyn Monroe died at the age of 36 although the causes were different. The legendary actress was already suffering from congenital heart disease and she was detected having a ventricular septal defect (commonly called the hole in the heart) in 1954.
