Despite previous speculations of him considering a switch to Congress due to feeling sidelined within BJP, Somanna's journey has seen him grow from a member of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in 1983-87 to a vital figure in Karnataka politics.
His storied career includes a recent win in the Tumkur Lok Sabha segment by an impressive margin, overcoming Congress' S P Muddahanumegowda. Somanna continues to be a significant Lingayat leader and has had affiliations with Janata Dal, Congress, and BJP over the years.
