The Congress party has harshly criticized the government's decision to commemorate June 25, the day the Emergency was declared in 1975, as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas'. They labeled the move as another 'headline-grabbing exercise in hypocrisy' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The opposition party retorted that November 8, the day demonetisation was announced in 2016, should be observed as 'Aajivika Hatya Diwas' (Livelihood Killing Day), and suggested that an official gazette notification will be issued soon.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh lashed out at Modi, accusing him of a decade-long 'undeclared Emergency' before his political downfall in 2024. He also criticized Modi for allegedly assaulting the constitution and its principles.
