BJP Reflects on Himachal Pradesh Bypoll Defeat

The BJP accepts the people's mandate after winning only one of three seats in the Himachal Pradesh assembly bypolls. Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur states that the party will address its shortcomings and continue to strive for public welfare. Former Independent legislators who switched to BJP lost their seats.

The BJP, which secured just one out of three seats in the Himachal Pradesh assembly bypolls on Saturday, has accepted the people's mandate and vowed to continue its fight for public welfare.

In a statement, former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur assured that the party would scrutinize the reasons for its defeat in these elections. 'We accept the people's mandate. Our fight for the welfare of the people of the state would continue from road to Vidhan Sabha,' Thakur said.

Switching allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party proved detrimental for former Independent legislators Hoshiyar Singh and K L Thakur, who were defeated by Congress candidates in the Dehra and Nalagarh constituencies respectively. Meanwhile, BJP's Ashish Sharma emerged victorious in the Hamirpur bypoll, securing 1,571 votes more than his nearest rival, Congress candidate Pushpender Verma.
