The BJP has launched a blistering attack on Congress and its allies for their opposition to the Centre's decision to observe June 25 as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas.' Speaking on Saturday, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi condemned the hypocrisy of those who claim to be defenders of the constitution yet oppose this commemoration.
Trivedi castigated opposition figures like RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, questioning if the historic JP movement was also anarchy for them. His comments came in response to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who criticized the BJP for focusing on the past, particularly the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975.
The RJD has also been vocal against the move, with MP Manoj Jha accusing the BJP of double standards and demanding the declaration of January 30 as 'Gandhi Hatya Diwas.' Trivedi, however, stressed that remembering such dark days is crucial, citing past constitutional violations under Congress regimes.
