Biden Condemns Attack on Trump, Calls for National Unity

US President Joe Biden denounced the attempted assassination of his rival Donald Trump, emphasizing unity and the rejection of violence. Trump sustained injuries at an election rally in Pennsylvania. The suspected shooter was killed by Secret Service. Biden expressed relief that Trump is safe and well.

US President Joe Biden on Saturday condemned the life-threatening attack on his Republican rival and predecessor Donald Trump, stating, “there is no place for this kind of violence in America”.

Addressing the press from his Rehoboth Beach house in Delaware, Biden mentioned he attempted to contact Trump, who is currently with doctors and reportedly recovering well.

Trump was injured during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following an apparent series of gunshots. The US Secret Service swiftly escorted him from the venue. Law enforcement confirmed that the suspected shooter was shot dead on-site by the Secret Service. One casualty has been reported.

CNN reports that authorities are treating the incident as an assassination attempt. The type of weapon used remains unclear.

“There's no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden emphasized. “It's sick and one of the reasons why we must unite this country. I’m grateful to hear that Trump is safe and doing well. I'm praying for him, his family, and all those at the rally as we await further details.”

Biden said that he plans to speak with Trump soon and lauded the Secret Service's swift action. “Jill and I are thankful to the Secret Service for ensuring his safety. This violence cannot be tolerated in America; we must unite to condemn it,” he reiterated. Blood was seen on Trump's face and ear as he reached towards his neck. Multiple sources report several gunshots were heard during his rally speech.

Both the Secret Service and Trump spokesperson have assured that the former president is fine. “He is under medical evaluation at a local facility,” stated Steven Cheung, Trump's spokesperson.

The FBI is on the scene in Butler, Pennsylvania, collaborating with the Secret Service as the investigation proceeds,” an FBI spokesman confirmed. Biden's campaign announced it would promptly halt television advertisements. Biden's re-election campaign had launched a $50 million advertising drive in key battleground states this month.

Biden and Trump face off in the upcoming November presidential elections.
