Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has openly criticized the Central Government during a public event in Navi Mumbai. Pawar condemned the government's failure to contain the violence in Manipur and pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi hasn't visited the violence-hit northeastern state to console its people.
Pawar emphasized the urgent responsibility of the ruling government to address crises, unite societies, and restore law and order. He questioned why today's leaders have neglected this duty. 'After all this has happened in Manipur, the country's Prime Minister does not feel the need to go there and console the people,' Pawar remarked on Sunday.
Highlighting past communal harmony, Pawar lamented that communities in Manipur now avoid even basic interaction. He referred to recent parliamentary discussions and interactions with locals who described the deterioration into conflict, destruction of agriculture, and violence, including against women. The violence started on May 3 last year during a rally by the All Tribals Students Union, protesting the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status. In June, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the situation, ordering measures to prevent further violence.
