In yet another rebellion within the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, senior party leader Chander Mohan Sharma announced his resignation Friday over dissatisfaction with the ticket distribution for the assembly elections. He also threatened to contest as an Independent candidate.
The BJP faces significant backlash over its ticket allocations in the Union territory. Leaders and workers in several districts of the Jammu region have been protesting, leading the party to launch a damage control exercise by deploying several top leaders, including Union ministers, to calm the situation.
Sharma cited widespread anger and dissatisfaction among party members over the 'unfair distribution of mandates' and expressed hope that party leadership would reconsider the mandate change in Jammu East. If not, he stated his intention to heed calls from supporters to run independently. Senior BJP leaders continue efforts to resolve the issue ahead of the upcoming elections, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
