Qatar's Strategic Cabinet Shuffle: New Leaders, New Directions
Qatar's emir has appointed Mohammed Al Sowaidi as the new CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority, replacing Mansour Ibrahim al-Mahmoud, who becomes health minister. This reshuffle includes Sheikh Faisal bin Thani as minister of commerce and industry, while Lolwah Al-Khater takes over as education minister, highlighting Qatar's strategic leadership shifts.
In a strategic move announced Tuesday, Qatar's emir has appointed Mohammed Al Sowaidi as the new CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority. Al Sowaidi, who has been instrumental in establishing the fund's presence in the Americas, will now lead the $510 billion sovereign wealth fund.
The appointment is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle that sees Mansour Ibrahim al-Mahmoud moving to the role of health minister and Sheikh Faisal bin Thani stepping in as the new minister of commerce and industry. Sheikh Faisal, previously involved with the QIA's operations in the Asia-Pacific and Africa, also serves as the chairman of Qatari telecom group Ooredoo.
Additionally, the emir appointed Lolwah bint Rashid Al-Khater as the new education minister. Known for her work in international cooperation and humanitarian initiatives, she has played a key role in mediating the return of Ukrainian children from Russian-controlled areas.
