In a fresh political controversy, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused certain Election Commission officials of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate voter lists in West Bengal, particularly in the border areas. TMC claims that names are being added without proper verification to benefit the BJP.
Kunal Ghosh, TMC state general secretary, criticized the apparent lapse in maintaining the integrity of the electoral rolls, specifically pointing out issues in the Champahati area. He suggested that the responsibility to prevent such malpractice lies with the Central government, which oversees the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya lashed out at TMC, alleging that the ruling party had been involved in issuing fake voter IDs. He added that TMC's accusations are signs of desperation as they face potential defeat in the upcoming polls, with vigilant authorities ensuring fair elections.
