Delhi Assembly Protests: AAP vs BJP Over Portrait Controversy

In a heated session of the Delhi Assembly, Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended 12 members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Opposition Leader Atishi, for protesting during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena's speech. The protest centered on allegations that the BJP removed a portrait of BR Ambedkar from the chief minister's office.

AAP members, among them Gopal Rai and Vishesh Ravi, voiced their indignation by staging demonstrations within the assembly grounds, wielding Ambedkar portraits and chanting in his support. This followed Atishi's assertion that the BJP's actions disrespected the influential Dalit leader.

In response, BJP figures accused AAP of deflecting attention from pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, claiming that AAP's protests aim to obscure their own purported misdeeds. Despite BJP's defense through photographic evidence of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar portraits in ministerial offices, tensions remain high.
