BJP's spokesperson CR Kesavan criticized the DMK's opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) on Tuesday, accusing them of fostering a 'discriminatory mentality' that harms students. Kesavan hailed the NEP 2020 as a progressive reform ensuring educational equality and empowerment, while labeling the DMK's educational model as divisive and regressive.
Congress MP K Suresh also voiced concerns, slamming the central government for pushing the NEP without consulting state governments or academicians. He argued the policy aims to 'saffronise' the education system, opposing Tamil Nadu's resistance to the three-language policy imposed without their consent.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan added to the tensions, accusing the DMK of dishonesty and divisive politics. His comments sparked a backlash from Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin, who criticized Pradhan's 'arrogance' and alleged disrespect towards the Tamil people. The controversy led to a stalemate in parliamentary proceedings.
