In a fiery statement, Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad compared his removal from the BJP to the mythical banishment of Vibhishan from Lanka in the Ramayana, suggesting he was ousted for highlighting corruption in cricket.
Speaking during a Lok Sabha debate on the supplementary demands for grants, MP Azad from West Bengal's Bardhaman–Durgapur seat claimed that his attempts to address corruption in cricket were met with silence, ultimately leading to his departure from the party.
A member of India's 1983 cricket World Cup-winning team, Azad emphasized his inside knowledge by stating, "I know their secrets," as he criticized the BJP's handling of his allegations.
