The Indian Parliament was a battleground of verbal jousting on Tuesday after Congress and BJP representatives clashed over inflammatory remarks made during a session. Congress MP Mallu Ravi denounced BJP MP Sambit Patra for repeatedly targeting Rahul Gandhi with derogatory comments. In protest, Congress members stalled proceedings, insisting on an apology from Patra.
The tension heightened when Patra controversially compared the fitness levels of cricketer Rohit Sharma and Rahul Gandhi. Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla condemned this as rife with unparliamentary language and demanded the remarks be struck from the record.
Simultaneously, a separate dispute arose in the Rajya Sabha over Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's 'thokenge' comments, which Union Minister JP Nadda criticized as an attack on the chair. Despite Kharge's insistence that his words critiqued government policy rather than the chair, Nadda called for an apology. Kharge later issued a clarification, apologizing to the Deputy Chairman but not retracting his criticism of governmental policy.
