The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh is gearing up for a substantial protest against the state's Congress government on March 27. The demonstration is aimed at holding the government accountable for its alleged failure in governance over the past two years, as announced by BJP leaders Jairam Thakur and Rajeev Bindal during a joint press conference in Shimla.
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur alleges that the state is rife with falsehoods under the current administration, with active mafias in mining, scrap, and forestry sectors. He raised alarms about corruption and a spike in drug abuse, citing over ten overdose deaths in recent months. Thakur criticized the government's economic management, noting delayed pension disbursements, and vowed that the BJP will vocalize the public's concerns at the assembly protest.
BJP state president Rajeev Bindal echoed these claims, labeling the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government as the most ineffective in Himachal Pradesh's history. Bindal accused the government of serving its affiliates while neglecting its electoral promises, including six guarantees. He underscored issues of deteriorating law and order and increased drug abuse to justify the impending protest, reflecting rising political tensions in the state.
