The Indian National Congress has intensified its demand for a detailed debate on China's growing influence, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's past stance. On Thursday, the party underscored the importance of national discussions focused on addressing security and economic challenges stemming from China's global ascent.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh marked the fifth anniversary of what he termed Modi's controversial statement on China, made shortly after the Galwan incident in 2020. Ramesh highlighted territorial concerns in regions like Galwan and pointed out how Chinese imports are surging, particularly in electronics and solar sectors.

Ramesh criticized the trade imbalance with China, which hit a record USD 99.2 billion. He also noted China's involvement in Pakistan's military advancements. With multiple challenges stemming from China's burgeoning global power, Congress hopes the forthcoming Parliament session will foster a crucial discussion.
