In a sudden move, a scheduled special press conference set to take place this afternoon has been postponed due to the unfortunate passing of Shibu Soren, a towering figure in Jharkhand's political landscape and a founding member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The announcement was made by Congress leader Pawan Khera on Monday morning.
The demise of 'Guruji' Shibu Soren has also led to the halting of the ongoing protest by Opposition MPs against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, which was to be held at Makar Dwar. The protest will now be relocated to the legislative floor. Soren, remembered for his extensive work towards tribal rights and empowerment, prompted leaders from various political spectrums to express their condolences and respect.
India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow at Soren's passing, lauding his lifelong dedication to the weaker sections of society, particularly the tribal community. Mr. Soren's demise was confirmed by his son, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The ex-Chief Minister passed away in New Delhi's Sri Ganga Ram Hospital due to kidney ailments. His political journey spanned over four decades, leading JMM for 38 years and serving multiple terms in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, marking him as a significant national leader.
