In a fresh political storm, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission (EC) of conspiring with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate electoral rolls. Describing this as 'institutionalised chori', Gandhi claims this maneuver is aimed at undermining the voting rights of India's economically disadvantaged citizens.
The explosive allegations were made in a video shared on Gandhi's YouTube channel where he contended that over 1 lakh votes had been 'stolen' in the Mahadevapura assembly segment of Karnataka's Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency, a model he alleges is being replicated across the nation. Citing the analysis conducted by his party in Karnataka, Gandhi highlighted multiple irregularities, including duplicate voters and misused voter registration forms.
Gandhi emphasized the gravity of these acts by framing them as crimes against the Constitution. He further warned that this alleged EC-BJP collusion threatens the very fabric of democracy. With Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer now demanding evidence from Gandhi, the unfolding controversy continues to draw significant attention.
