Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has voiced skepticism about India's willingness to improve ties with Pakistan, citing historical grievances and repeated betrayals. Speaking at a book launch, he urged Pakistan to dismantle terror networks operating from its territory to show sincerity.
Tharoor highlighted instances of past Indian outreach, including Vajpayee's 1999 Lahore visit and Modi's 2015 talks, all marred by subsequent hostilities. He stressed that India cannot take the first step in reconciliation until Pakistan demonstrates its commitment by shutting down known terror camps.
Referring to the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Tharoor mentioned India's ample evidence of Pakistani involvement, yet no prosecution followed. He attributed the recent ceasefire to India's strategic military response rather than external influence, dismissing claims of US intervention.
