Former Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has denied issuing any orders to shoot during the recent Gen Z demonstrations. He stated that automatic gunfire directed at protestors was from weapons not held by police, and called for a full investigation into the events.
Blaming the violence on infiltrators within the otherwise peaceful protests, Oli expressed grief over the deaths of 74 individuals, including three policemen. The unrest emerged from demonstrations against corruption and social media restrictions, turning deadly on September 8 and 9.
In the aftermath of his resignation on September 9, critical incidents of arson occurred, with important government buildings set ablaze. Oli emphasized the need for unity among Nepalis to defend the Constitution and address threats to national sovereignty.
