Calls for Dialogue to Restore Jammu and Kashmir Statehood

Ali Mohammad Sagar, a legislator from the ruling National Conference (NC), has called on the central government to engage with Jammu and Kashmir's leadership in dialogue. Speaking during the Legislative Assembly's Zero Hour session, Sagar emphasized the need to resolve pressing issues, including the demand for restored statehood.

The NC MLA pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had committed to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood during a parliamentary session and at the inauguration of the Sonamarg tunnel earlier this year. Sagar questioned why these promises have yet to be fulfilled, suggesting that it's crucial for the central government to act on these declarations.

Highlighting concerns about governance, Sagar noted that dual power centers are hindering effective administration in the region. He drew parallels with the dialogue held with Ladakhi groups, urging similar discussions for Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the high expectations residents have from their leadership.
