National Conference Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha are urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to consider the humanitarian aspects connected to Jammu and Kashmir prisoners held outside the Union Territory. They've submitted a memorandum advocating for these prisoners' return and requesting those with unproven charges to be released.
Significant concerns were raised regarding the separation of thousands of families due to the distant incarceration of their loved ones. The MPs emphasized financial and logistical challenges faced by these families, highlighting that many cannot afford to travel long distances for visits or legal consultations.
Further, the MPs appealed to the government to expedite the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, referring to Supreme Court judgments and political assurances that have fueled public expectation. They underline that delays in this process are causing significant democratic and emotional distress.
