Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the outcomes of his maiden visit to Ethiopia, describing new agreements as a "significant" step in fortifying the bilateral partnership focused on "growth and people-centric development."
The visit resulted in the elevation of India-Ethiopia relations to a 'Strategic Partnership' and saw Modi holding discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. The two leaders witnessed the signing of three key Memoranda of Understanding in UN Peacekeeping, customs cooperation, and establishing a Data Centre for Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additional initiatives involve upgrading ties, debt restructuring, educational scholarships, and support for healthcare. Modi further expressed gratitude for Ethiopia's support in combating terrorism and was honored with Ethiopia's highest award, The Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia, a first for any global head of state.
