In a significant legislative development, Telangana Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has dismissed disqualification petitions against five BRS MLAs who were accused of switching allegiances to the ruling Congress. This decision comes amidst mounting pressure and judicial scrutiny.
The Telangana Speaker had previously issued notices to 10 MLAs after an opposition party lodged petitions against their alleged defection. Out of the 10, eight MLAs have responded to the notices, whereas Danam Nagender and Kadiam Srihari have sought additional time to address the allegations.
The controversy escalated when the Supreme Court issued a contempt notice to Speaker Kumar for not adhering to its directive to resolve the disqualification requests promptly. As the matter awaits further hearing in four weeks, the legal and political implications of this decision continue to unfold.
