Bipartisan Delegation Seeks to Ease Tensions Over Greenland Controversy
A bipartisan U.S. delegation is visiting Denmark and Greenland to assure them of congressional support amid President Trump's proposition to acquire Greenland for its strategic importance. The visit includes key lawmakers, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and opposing the use of military force to seize Greenland.
A bipartisan delegation of U.S. lawmakers is set to meet with the leaders of Denmark and Greenland as tensions linger over President Donald Trump's suggestion to acquire Greenland due to its strategic location and mineral resources. The U.S. congressional representatives aim to reaffirm their support for allies despite Trump's stance.
Senator Chris Coons, leading the 11-member group, highlighted the need for solidarity during international tensions. New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen criticized the prospect of annexation, saying it undermines NATO and benefits geopolitical adversaries. She emphasized bipartisan support for maintaining strong U.S.-Danish relations.
During their European visit, the delegation met Danish and Greenlandic representatives, following a meeting at the White House. Despite Danish efforts, the U.S. administration's position remains unchanged. Both Trump's party members and Democrats express overwhelmingly opposition to the concept of acquiring Greenland by force.
