Trump's Economic Leadership Under Scrutiny by Republicans
Nearly a year into his second term, President Donald Trump's economic policies are under scrutiny, with a new poll revealing unmet expectations among Republicans. Despite retaining support on immigration, Trump's approach to reducing living costs and job creation has yet to satisfy many within his party.
Nearly a year into President Donald Trump's second term, a new AP-NORC survey shows that his economic policies are failing to meet the expectations of many Republicans. His once-praised economic leadership now shows a significant gap between the first and second terms.
Only 16% of Republicans believe Trump has substantially helped with living costs, a stark contrast to the 49% in April 2024 who credited him significantly. While inflation has cooled, prices on numerous goods remain elevated compared to last January, igniting dissatisfaction among consumers.
Despite this, Trump's immigration policies still resonate strongly with his base. The poll illustrates that 8 in 10 Republicans acknowledge some positive impact from his approach on immigration, even as controversial tactics and federal agent activities raise concerns.
