In a fiery address, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to exclude Bengali voters through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Banerjee vowed to launch protests if any genuine voter's name is removed from the electoral rolls.
Speaking at a rally in Midnapore, Banerjee alleged that the SIR exercise was designed to omit over one crore Bengali-speaking voters, under pressure from the Election Commission (EC). He displayed three 'dead' voters as evidence of the alleged omissions and criticized the EC's actions.
Banerjee further alleged that the BJP was branding Bengali-speaking people as Bangladeshis and criticized the party for its stance on cultural icons. He also asserted the TMC's commitment to various initiatives for women's empowerment and state development despite BJP's interference.
