The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply criticized the Punjab government, accusing it of muzzling free press. Party representatives claim the state administration has targeted the Punjab Kesari newspaper following its critical reporting on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), raising concerns about democracy suppression.
Punjab Kesari alleged multiple raids were conducted on its premises by enforcement authorities at the behest of AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal. BJP spokesperson Bansuri Swaraj likened these actions to media censorship during the Emergency period under Congress.
Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar warned against turning the state into a 'police state' and announced plans to meet the Punjab governor. The AAP has denied the accusations, stating that the claims lack merit and are politically motivated.
