Global Leaders Form 'Board of Peace' for Gaza Governance
The White House announced the formation of a 'Board of Peace' to oversee Gaza's temporary governance amidst a fragile ceasefire. The board, chaired by former President Trump, comprises international dignitaries but lacks Palestinian representation. Critics express concerns over potential neocolonial dynamics and highlighted personnel controversies.
On Friday, the White House revealed members of the 'Board of Peace,' a body overseeing Gaza's governance amidst a fragile ceasefire. This board, chaired by former President Donald Trump, includes notable figures such as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
While the Trump administration steers this initiative, some critics argue its structure resembles colonial governance. Concerns were raised about Tony Blair's involvement, given his history in the Middle East, as well as the absence of Palestinian members on the board.
The international board's formation follows an agreement between Israel and Hamas. The U.N. Security Council recently authorized an International Stabilization Force in Gaza. Human rights concerns persist as accusations of ceasefire violations and alleged genocide surface amidst ongoing conflict.
