The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent remarks concerning President Droupadi Murmu. According to senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, Banerjee's comments, which accuse President Murmu of aligning with BJP advice and remaining silent on key tribal issues in states like Manipur and Chhattisgarh, are disrespectful.
Banerjee had lashed out at President Murmu following an event where the President expressed dissatisfaction over changes to the Santal conference's venue and the absence of the West Bengal Chief Minister and her ministers. Prasad, highlighting Banerjee's responses as shameful, suggested that she is ignoring the dignity afforded to the President as a tribal woman and the nation's constitutional head.
Furthermore, Prasad accused Banerjee of exhibiting dictatorial tendencies in her governance of West Bengal, arguing that she disrespects democratic values and institutions. He criticized Banerjee for playing what he described as a facade regarding constitutional integrity and urged her to respect national leaders and institutions.
