Uttarakhand Congress Protests Amid Government's Budget Announcements

Thousands of Uttarakhand Congress supporters gathered outside the state assembly in a massive demonstration on Tuesday, demanding urgent dialogues on crucial public issues, particularly law and order, unemployment, and inflation. Despite police barricades in Bhararisain (Gairsain), protesters moved forward, challenging police intervention and seeking attention to their concerns.

The Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly, Yashpal Arya, stressed the Congress's commitment to a smooth legislative process. Arya urged the Speaker to prioritize significant state issues during the session, stating, "The Congress Legislature Party aspires to conduct proceedings with efficiency and has always seized constructive initiatives."

This protest coincides with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's introduction of a substantial Rs 1.11 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. Dhami highlighted the GYAN model, targeting poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, farmer support, and women's advancement as cornerstones for societal progress. The state budget outlines allocations for poverty reduction and youth skill development schemes, underscoring government priorities.
