A case has been registered against BJP leader and former MLA Shashank Bhargava, charging him with abetting a farmer's suicide in the Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, according to officials on Monday.
The body of farmer Govind Gurjar was discovered near a railroad in Peepal Wali Puliya on April 27. Before his death, Gurjar recorded a video in which he allegedly accused Bhargava of coercion and financial harassment, said City Superintendent of Police Atul Singh.
In response to the serious allegations, District Superintendent of Police Rohit Kashwani has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT's preliminary findings suggest that Bhargava pressured the farmer into signing a house agreement, leading to financial stress. On Sunday evening, police filed charges under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have launched an investigation.
