A controversy erupted in Kolkata as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters of demolishing meat shops with a bulldozer during a victory celebration in the New Market area. The TMC described the act as 'hooliganism' and criticized the inactivity of central forces present at the scene.

The incident reportedly occurred after the BJP's landslide victory in the assembly elections, ending a 15-year TMC rule. TMC claimed this event as part of a 'pattern of intimidation' following the election results. Social media posts, including videos of the alleged incident, were shared by prominent TMC figures, raising concerns over public trust and law and order in West Bengal.

BJP leaders, however, denied any endorsement of violence and called for police action against disruptions caused under the guise of celebrations. According to a senior police officer, the gathering was monitored by security forces, ensuring no untoward incident took place.
