The Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleged that a violent incident targeting its leader, Abhishek Banerjee, in Sonarpur, West Bengal, was a deliberate act orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The attack was described by TMC as not a mere expression of public anger, counter to BJP claims.
Supporting their claims, TMC presented photographs purportedly showing local BJP figures involved in the incident, including a woman previously seen with BJP leader Locket Chatterjee. They further demanded accountability from Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and questioned who sanctioned the attack.
The mob allegedly threw stones and eggs at Banerjee, who was shielded by aides while wearing a cricket helmet. Despite BJP West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya's remarks that his party is not involved, TMC insisted the attack reflects deteriorating public discourse under BJP governance.
