In a significant development, Abhilash Gopinathan, the State Legal Convener of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Tamil Nadu, has announced his resignation from the post and relinquished his primary membership in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This decision follows in the wake of K Annamalai's recent departure from the party.

Gopinathan's resignation letter explains his decision as guided by his commitment to the leadership and ideals of former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai. "My decision is driven by my conviction to follow the path and vision of K Annamalai," he stated, applauding Annamalai's leadership and dedication to public service as central to his own political engagement.

Discussing the situation with ANI, Gopinathan emphasized the admiration young party members have for Annamalai, asserting their intention to support him, despite the obstacles ahead. "We are youngsters who are looking up to a leader like Annamalai. When he takes such a decision, it's our duty to contribute to this movement," he passionately remarked.

The chain of resignations began after BJP President Nitin Nabin accepted Annamalai's resignation. In his resignation letter, Annamalai expressed gratitude for the national leadership's consistent support but cited divergent perspectives on Tamil Nadu as his reason for leaving.

"I thank the senior leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for your unwavering support," Annamalai wrote, highlighting fundamental differences in views concerning the state's direction. This development could indicate a shift towards "positive politics" in Tamil Nadu, as suggested by Gopinathan.
