Armenia's Election Sparks International Tensions
The Russian Foreign Ministry, through spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, has criticized Armenia's recent parliamentary elections. She claims the elections were marred by Western interference and unprecedented pressure on the opposition. The ruling Civil Contract party's victory indicates Armenia's shift towards the West and away from Russia.
In a statement released on Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed concerns over Armenia's recent parliamentary elections. According to Zakharova, the elections occurred amidst substantial pressure on the opposition coupled with interference from Western entities.
The results of the election, as Zakharova pointed out, highlight a deeply polarized Armenian society. Notably, the Civil Contract party, currently governing Armenia, emerged victorious from the said elections.
This victory is seen as pivotal, not only in evaluating the party's management of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan but also in marking Armenia's strategic pivot towards Western alliances, distancing itself from its long-time ally, Russia.
