Russia Seeks to Reinforce Troops with North Korean Forces

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced Russia's intentions to bring in 30,000 North Korean troops to aid its ongoing conflict. Preparations in Russia’s Voronezh region have been underway since June. Previously, North Korea deployed 14,000 soldiers to the Kursk region under a mutual defense pact.

In a startling revelation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy disclosed Russia’s plans to bolster its forces in the ongoing conflict by bringing in 30,000 troops from North Korea. The announcement was made during Zelenskiy’s nightly video address on Saturday.

Zelenskiy highlighted Russia's military readiness, stating, "We also see Russia's cooperation with North Korea. Russia wants to bring in another 30,000 North Korean troops." Preparations have reportedly been underway in the Voronezh region of Russia since June to accommodate these troops.

Under an existing mutual defense pact, North Korea previously deployed 14,000 soldiers to support Russian efforts in the Kursk region in 2024, following a significant Ukrainian incursion. This ongoing collaboration signals deepening military ties between Russia and North Korea amid escalating tensions.
