Karnataka's Chief Minister DK Shivakumar underscored the Mekedatu project's critical role on Thursday, noting its significance extends beyond state lines to benefit Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister assured that every drop of water from the project would aid farmers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

During a meeting, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the urgent need to address the Cauvery water issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Shivakumar emphasized the commitment to ensuring that the Mekedatu project, a key point of contention, would support agricultural needs across regions.

The longstanding Cauvery water dispute, recently reignited by the Mekedatu proposal, pits Karnataka against Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court has mandated Karnataka to comply with water release orders, while Tamil Nadu seeks enforcement for a steady flow of Cauvery water. The court will revisit the issue on August 24.
