In a determined stance against the proposed Mekedatu Dam, Tamil Nadu's Water Resources Minister N Anand has vowed that Karnataka will not be allowed to advance the contentious project. His commitment was aired during a State Assembly session, amid accusations of a lenient stance from DMK MLA Durai Chandrasekaran.

The long-standing Cauvery water dispute, predominantly involving Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, centers around equitable water-sharing from the Cauvery River, with tensions heightening during drought spells. Karnataka's Mekedatu reservoir proposal reignites these inter-state tensions, opposed by Tamil Nadu over potential downstream impacts.

The Mekedatu Dam debate intensified in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 7, as opposition and ruling parties clashed. Udhayanidhi Stalin called for statewide unity akin to Karnataka's stance, but CM Vijay dismissed an all-party meeting for the dispute, urging focus on upholding Tamil Nadu's water rights.
