The Bhoj Wetland in Bhopal will remain on the Ramsar Convention list of wetlands of international importance, as confirmed by the Centre in Parliament on Monday. This follows a report from the Madhya Pradesh State Wetland Authority.
Last month, certain media reports suggested that the Bhoj Wetland might be delisted from the global list due to potential damage to its ecological character. However, Union Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh, responding to a question by BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, clarified that there is no threat of delisting.
The Ramsar Convention, which India ratified on February 1, 1982, aims to establish an international network of protected wetlands crucial for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem sustainability.
