Hurricane Ernesto Threatens Bermuda and Puerto Rico
Hurricane Ernesto, a Category 2 storm, is expected to hit Bermuda, bringing life-threatening flooding and powerful winds. The storm previously caused significant power outages in Puerto Rico, highlighting the island's fragile grid. Bermuda prepares for severe weather, while Puerto Rico continues its recovery efforts.
Hurricane Ernesto churned towards Bermuda on Friday, presenting a formidable threat as a Category 2 storm. With winds reaching up to 100 mph, the hurricane is expected to deliver life-threatening flooding and storm surges to the British territory.
"Folks, be under no illusion. This storm is the real deal," said Michael Weeks, Bermuda's national security minister. Bermudians have been advised to brace for 36 hours of intense weather conditions starting Friday afternoon, with storm surges and flash flooding anticipated by Saturday.
The storm, which grazed Puerto Rico earlier this week, causing widespread power outages, underscores the fragility of the island's power grid. Despite ongoing efforts and substantial federal funding, Puerto Rico's grid remains in disrepair, according to experts. Bermuda awaits Ernesto's impact as residents prepare for the worst.
