In a groundbreaking initiative, Indore's Kamala Nehru Zoo is on the path to becoming Madhya Pradesh's first zero waste zoological park. Officials have charted a comprehensive plan to process and dispose of all the waste within the zoo premises, aligning with the city's green objectives.
Currently, the zoo produces several hundred kilograms of wet and dry waste each day. As part of the new strategy, efforts will ensure that all this waste is managed internally, without reliance on external disposal methods.
The project also includes utilizing the generated waste creatively. Artefacts will be crafted from the junk, and bones from carnivorous food waste will be repurposed as fertilizer for the zoo's gardens, enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency.
